2 Problems

By harrymsn - Posted on 01 March 2010

First of all i just wanna say that this app is goin places. Its a really good app, Well done keep it up.
The first version of this app worked perfectly without any errors or bugs. This new version has got alot better, but i come across 2 bugs or errors....
1.  When 2 songs are playing, 1 of the waveforms (blue/green) dissapears just leaving the 1 left to show. Other times it will just flicker on and off?
2. Where the BPM is shown on the transport area (0.00bpm), the BPM of the songs dont show up straight away. It stays at 0.00bpm for a long period of time. Isnt the BPM for each song suppost to show up shortly after the songs are loaded in?
I would like to fix these 2 problems. Apart from that its still a great app, and i will look forward to new updates in the near future.

Hi HarryMSN and welcome back!

Thanks for the feedback on the issues you're seeing. I believe they are caused by the same thing. When you first load a song in Quixpin, it will decode the song in real-time, plot the wave form, and then calculate the BPM. The problem is that it may take some time to accomplish this. If you are playing the song while it is decoding, your song position may wind up being past the point that it has decoded. This is also why the BPM isn't updated immediately. It has to decode the whole song to determine the BPM.

We implemented the feature this way for three reasons:

  • We wanted to eliminate the need for external software
  • We wanted to make the process seamless to the user
  • We wanted to make the upload process as fast as possible, since it has to be done over WiFi and USB is not possible yet.

That said, we've been workin on adding a button in the setup that would allow you to analyze all new songs in your library in one fell swoop. That would allow you to upload songs at once, and then press a button and get them all organized while you go grab a cup of coffee (or a cocktail). When you get back, all songs would have been decoded and you'll be able to use them easily.

We're trying to time this against a couple of other projects, but hopefully we'll have this and a couple of other features complete and submitted within the next month.

In the mean time, the best way to handle it is to load up a song at a time and let it decode while nothing else is happening. Unfortunately, this also takes time. Thanks for your patience.

Thank you for letting me know about all that.
The best way i have found out is to just try and remember the tempo of each track, then i can mix without having to wait as long. It all works perfect once it has fully decoded though. Im looking forward to the next release.
You guys should build up a mixing software of quixpin for pc/laptops. You will have a bigger scale to work on with plenty of space, just an idea for you, welldone so far.
